Douglas Ridloff: ASL SLAM Storyteller and Poet
Douglas Ridloff is a visual storyteller extraordinaire, crafting original narratives in the poetic beauty of American Sign Language. His artistry has transcended borders, with performances gracing stages from Jamaica to Israel and iconic venues, including the Whitney Museum and the 9/11 Memorial Museum. Recognised nationally and internationally, Douglas's work has garnered attention from prestigious media outlets like NBC News, HBO, and CNN’s Great Big Story. Brace yourself for a captivating journey through the power of visual storytelling.
Amy Murray: 'My Angry Vagina' (18+)
Amy Murray, a graduate with a BA in Performance in British Sign Language and English from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, brings unbridled laughter to the stage. Amy will be performing the piece called “My Angry Vagina” by Eve Ensler who wrote “The Vagina Monologues” that Amy will share through Flarewave Festival. She will be expressing in British Sign Language, and it would be very visually hilarious, so be prepared for it!
Amy recent accolades, including a role in 'The Witcher: Blood Origin,' contributions to 'Spill Your Drink: A Deaf Cabaret' with 'My Angry Vagina,' and a standout performance at the Edinburgh Deaf Festival, showcase her comedic prowess. With her short film "A Pointe" and the creation of 'Red Aphrodite,' Amy's talents continue to evolve, cementing her status as a vibrant force in the arts. Please note that this performance is for adults aged 18 and above.
Rinkoo Barpaga: 'Made In India (Britain)'
Rinkoo Barpaga's journey is a testament to resilience and self-discovery. Having left his Birmingham home searching for belonging, he encountered the harsh realities of racism and discrimination. 'Made In India Britain' offers a poignant glimpse into Rinkoo's life as he embarks on a quest to unravel his true identity and find a place to call home. With his award-winning performance in British Sign Language (BSL) and spoken word translation in English, Rinkoo invites you to join him on a transformative expedition. Thanks to captions via Difference Engine, this experience is accessible to all.

Flarewave is proud to showcase Deaffest on Tour’s film screenings on Saturday 30th September 2023 at Duke of York’s Picturehouse (BN1 4NA]. Deaffest on Tour will screen a selection of must-watch films from the UK and across the globe, there will also be a premiere of BSL Zone's sci-fi drama Reverberations: The Return!

Engage in an enlightening and insightful conversation between Gavin Lilley and the legendary John Bishop. Gavin and John worked together in BAFTA-winning documentary John & Joe Bishop: Life After Deaf and here they will delve into their experiences, perspectives, and shared moments, as they shed light on the power of communication.
